Christmas is on the horizon and we put up our Christmas decorations this week. I felt quite sad that our hole selection of Christmas decorations we own are plastic! Each year the children select a new item for the Christmas tree. This year were going eco friendly!

We went for a beautiful walk through the forest to find pinecones, collected up 15 or so. They were closed up when we found them. To open them all you need to do is put them in the oven at 200C until they start opening up.

A little thing i didn't realise is the seeds start falling out once their open, so give them a good shake so they fall out.

Next stage all you need is glue and salt! That's it!
I used modge podge and fine sea salt. The kids used paint brushes and dotted glue around the edges and underneath the pinecone. Then we dipped it into the salt until all the glue is covered.
Let them dry and done! This is a super simple yet effective way of making gorgeous decorations.
You can put string around the top of each and hang them on the tree, or put into a bowl or vase as a centerpiece.

If you decide to give this a go please tag us on facebook, we would love to see what you do!
